According to various reports Bengals running back Rudi Johnson may be on his way out of town. When speaking with reporters on Tuesday after practice Johnson was asked if he could play Thursday night:

“If that’s the case, yeah. I could be gone any minute now, I’m just waiting on the call, looking at the clock. That’s all. So you know, it is what it is. Nothing’s surprising, though. Keep it moving.” Johnson responded.

What’s your thoughts on this? Should we trade Rudi and for who?

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer will not play tomorrow night against the Indianapolis Colts but will be ready for the Sept. 7th season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

“Carson is feeling fine,” Lewis said in a statement released Sunday by the club. “He suffered a small crack in one of the nose bones. The bone was gently put back into place this morning under local anesthetic.”

Palmer suffered his broken nose against the Saints last Sunday when the offensive line gave up 3 sacks in the first half, blood could be seen pouring down Palmer’s nose as he walked to the locker room. All of us Bengal fans wish a speedy recovery to Carson!

After being cut by the Seattle Seahawks two weeks ago, former MVP Shaun Alexander is beginning to make phone calls to teams about finding a new job. One of his phone calls will be to his favorite childhood team, the Cincinnati Bengals.

“Making calls to teams. Bengals are on our list!” Jim Steiner, Alexander’s agent, told The Enquirer in an e-mail Wednesday.

The 30-year old Alexander (21 on Aug. 30) was born in Covington, KY and raised in Florence, KY.

Alexander signed an eight-year, $62 million deal after the 2005 season and has not been the same since. He missed six games in 2006 as well as six games in 2007 due to a fractured left wrist and knee and ankle problems.

With their ten (10) picks in the past weekend’s draft, coach Marvin Lewis stayed away from drafting a RB. Since his standout season in 2005, Rudi Johnson has slowly been declining due to a series of injuries (and a controversial new diet that many believe has caused him to lose his bruising running style). Michigan product Chris Perry has not been able to stay on the field, aside from the 2005 season, due to varied injuries. 2007 second round pick, Auburn RB Kenny Irons, had a stand out training camp and pre-season before having it cut short during a pre-season game in Detroit.

In my opinion, sign Alexander as long as you can sign him for cheap. The only running back currently on the Bengals’ roster who has been durable for the past two seasons is Kenny Watson. By adding Alexander, the Bengals have a back that, if healthy, has all the intangibles of a franchise back. If you sign Alexander and he, Rudi and Perry come back healthy, there would not be a better trio of running backs in the NFL. It is a cheap win-win situation for both parties concerned. The Bengals need a proven, durable back and Alexander has something to prove to all of the critics who have said his career is over.

Memo to all Bengals players: PLEASE stay away from becoming a Madden Cover Boy. The Madden Curse continues…

The Cincinnati Bengals have made the right moves this offseason and now it's time for the players to follow.

The Cincinnati Bengals in my opinion had a great draft as they filled in some holes that were a problem last season. Did we land Ellis? No, so what! It turned out to be one of the best moves we made of the draft because it landed us both Rivers and Sims which will help our defense improve rapidly. Now when the Bengals take the field on defense the opposing teams offense is going to have Rivers, Brooks and Thurman hunting them down which in my opinion may be the best LB corpse in the NFL. In the previous years the Bengals have had trouble stopping the run, actually to be honest the Bengals haven’t been able to stop the run at all in the previous years. But with the additions of Odom, Sims and Shirley the Bengals may be able to have a legit defensive line to help stop the run and pressure the quarterback to allow mistakes and turnovers favor the Bengals.

When the Bengals selected Corey Lynch I had no idea who he was until I watched his highlight reel and was amazed at what he brings to the field, I see Lynch making a big impact right away and he reminds me a little of Ethan Kilmer and Kevin Kaesviharn which could be pretty exciting to watch.

Now on to the other side of the ball which would be the offense. I love the fact the Bengals drafted three wide receivers that look to be explosive and very athletic, these guys should have no trouble replacing Chris Henry and possibly Chad Johnson. Now some of you may ask why draft three wide receivers? Simple, Carson Palmer. When you have a pro bowl quarterback with an arm like his you have to surround him with weapons and build for the future, Palmer is now going to have many options when it comes to throwing the ball and let’s not forget about our new TE Ben Utecht who signed with us this past offseason and the other wide receivers we already have. Our offense should be able to put up more numbers this season than any other season Palmer has been here.

The Cincinnati Bengals success this season will depend on a few things: Will Thurman return to 05′ form? Will our defense stop the run and stay healthy? Will the new wide receivers step up and replace those who have left? The Bengals made the right moves and now it’s up to the players to follow.

Simply put: Yes.

USC Linebacker Keith Rivers fits in perfectly to a position that absolutely killed the Bengals last year. The linebacker corps for Cincinnati was plagued by injuries last season and Rivers, who missed one game last season (due to a sprained ankle), adds durability and power.
The 6′2, 241-pound Rivers can play all three linebacker spots, but is a natural fit at weak side. The weak side, however, is where the Bengals’ most experienced linebacker Dhani Jones currently resides. Projected starters middle linebacker Ahmad Brooks and strong-side Rashad Jeanty have combined for a total of 39 games and have proved to have health concerns. With Odell Thurman being reinstated, assuming he returns to his 2005 form, it is not a stretch to assume that the starting linebackers will be Jones, Thurman, and Rivers.

Not only does Rivers bring experience and power to this defense, but he is a proven run stopper. While the are ends solidified inAntwan Odom and Robert Geathers, the Bengals needed to focus on the rest of the front seven: Linebackers and Defensive Tackles. Instead of reaching at #9 and taking a lower DT, the Bengals decided to take who many had labeled the top linebacker in the draft, just ahead of Jarrod Mayo out of Tennessee.

Rivers also brings great attitude and character, a type of player that the Bengals are in dyer need of in their locker room.

“He’s a face of the franchise,” said new linebackers coach Jeff FitzGerald.
Other Needs: I look for the Bengals to take a hard look at WRs in the 2nd Round today. In my opinion, if he is still there, Texas WR Limas Sweed would be a perfect fit for the Bengals. Sweed is a tall receiver who reminds me physically of Chris Henry, without all of the legal problems.

With the Bengals losing out on DT Ellis in the first round, they must draft a DT with one of their remaining 9 draft.

I also look for the Bengals to address the need of KR/PR.
